FSSAI License

 

FSSAI License is issued by the Food Safety & Standard Authority of India ensuring that A Food Business Operator ( FBO ) complies with Food Safety & Standards ACT,2006 and Regulations.

 

Objectives

 

1. Set standards for food quality, safety, and hygiene.

2. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

3. Conduct regular inspections and audits.

4. Provide training and awareness on food safety.

5. Investigate and address food safety complaints.

6. Promote self-regulation and accountability among food businesses.

  • There are Three types in FSSAI Licensing
  • Central License
  • State License and
  • Registration (for Petty FBOs)

 

Eligibility Criteria for Registration

 

  • In simple words if your annual turnover is less than 12 Lakh you are eligible for Registration Certificate of FSSAI.
  • In Diary Unit:- Up to 500 LPD of milk or up to 2.5 MT of milk solids per annum
  • It also includes : Petty Retailer of snacks/tea shops, Hawker (Itinerant / Mobile food vendor), and
  • Food Vending Establishment likes Dhaba, Boarding Houses Serving Food which is a building providing food and lodging for paying guest, Home Based Canteens/ Dabba Wallas, Permanent/ Temporary Stall Holder, Food stalls/ Arrangements in religious gatherings/ fairs etc.
  • Fee for One Year is Rs.100/- 

 

Eligibility Criteria for State Licenses

  • In manufacturing production capacity is less than 2 MT (up to 2MT) per day (excluding All grains, Cereals & Pulses milling units without any ceiling on quantity and/or other Food Businesses more than 100Kg / Litre up to 2MT/day)
  • In dairy unit 501 to 50,000 LPD of milk or 2.5 MT to 2500 MT of milk solids per annum
  • Storage : Upto 50,000 MT, 10000MT and 1000 MT depending of Storage condition (Control, Cold, refrigerated, etc.)
  • Turnover more than 12 Lakh upto 20 Crore per annum for kind of business Distributor, Retailer, Restaurant, Caterer, Club Canteen and Mid Day Meal- canteen.
  • Turnover more than 12 Lakh upto 30 Crore per annum for kind of business Wholesaler and Transporter.
  • Fee for One Year is Rs.1000/-, 2000/- 3000/- or 5000/- depending on Eligibility Criteria.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Central Licenses

 

  • Manufacturing production capacity more than 2 MT per day (excluding All grains, Cereals & Pulses milling units without any ceiling on quantity and/or other Food Businesses more than 100Kg/Litre up to 2 MT/day)
  • In dairy unit More than 50,000 litres of liquid milk/day or more than 2500 MT of milk solid per annum
  • Storage : more than 50,000 MT, 10000 MT and 1000 MT depending of Storage condition (Control, Cold, refrigerated, etc.)
  • Turnover more than 20 Crore for kind of business Distributor, Retailer, Restaurant, Caterer and Mid-Day Meal Canteen, etc
  • Turnover more than 30 Crore for kind of business Wholesaler and Transporter.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Mandatory Central Licenses

  • For following kind of business No registration or State license can be granted. MANDATORY Central License/Registration issued by Central Licensing Authority.
  • Importer
  • Exporter , Manufacturer Exporter
  • 100 % Export Oriented Unit (100% EOU)
  • Manufacturer (Proprietary Food)
  • Manufacturer Food or Health Supplements and Nutraceuticals etc.
  • Manufacturer Radiation Processing of Food
  • e-Commerce
  • Head Office / Registered Office (If carrying out food business activities in more than one State with the same company/organisation name)
  • Central Govt. Agencies (If conducting food business activities i.e. Food canteen/catering services, storing, wholesaling, retailing, distributing food products at Central Govt. Premises)
  • Fee for One Year is Rs. 7500/- per year
